eSIM Installation Guide

Before You Start (Important Information)

To use your SIMNOVA eSIM, you first need to install it on your device. We recommend installing the eSIM a few hours before your trip.
When you arrive at your destination, the eSIM will usually connect to the local network automatically within a couple of minutes.

⚠️ Important: Before installing, please make sure:

During installation, you will need to scan a QR code or enter manual activation codes, all provided in the email we send after purchase.

Please note:

  • You can scan the QR code directly on your phone or from another screen/device.
  • If you cannot scan the QR code, you can install the eSIM manually using the codes from your email (1 code for Android, 2 codes for iOS).
  • The QR code and manual codes have limited uses. If you delete or remove the eSIM from your device, you may not be able to reinstall it.

1. Quick Installation (Recommended)


iOS – Automatic Setup

  1. Open your Camera and scan the QR code we emailed you.
  2. Tap Add Data Plan.
  3. Tap Continue and wait for the plan to activate.
  4. Go to Settings → Mobile Data and select your new eSIM as the Mobile Data line.
  5. Turn Roaming ON only when you arrive at your destination.

Android – Automatic Setup

  1. Open Settings → Network & Internet.
  2. Tap SIMs / eSIM.
  3. Choose Add eSIM or Use QR Code.
  4. Scan the QR code sent to your email.
  5. When you arrive, enable Roaming for the eSIM.

2. Manual Installation (If QR Code Doesn’t Scan)

iOS Manual

  1. Go to Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM.
  2. Tap Enter Details Manually.
  3. Enter the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code from your email.
  4. Complete setup and assign the eSIM as your Mobile Data line.

Android Manual

  1. Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs / eSIM.
  2. Tap Add eSIM → Enter Details Manually.
  3. Insert the Activation Code and SM-DP+ Address from your email.
  4. Confirm and finish installation.

3. Activation (at Your Destination)

  1. Open Settings → Mobile/Cellular.
  2. Select your new eSIM.
  3. Turn ON the line.
  4. Enable Mobile Data + Data Roaming for the eSIM.
  5. Wait 1–2 minutes for the network to connect.

Before You Begin

Have ready:

  • The QR code sent to your email
  • The SM-DP+ address and Activation Code (for manual setup)

1. Install Using QR Code

  1. Open your Camera app.
  2. Point it at the QR code until the Add Data Plan pop-up appears.
  3. Tap Add Data Plan.
  4. If successful, skip ahead to Step 6 below.

If QR Code Doesn’t Scan — Install Manually

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Mobile / Cellular.
  3. Tap Add Data Plan or Add eSIM.
  4. Select Enter Details Manually.
  5. Enter the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code exactly as provided in your email.
  6. Tap Next.

6. Continue Setup

  1. Your new data plan will appear on the screen → tap Continue.

    It may take a few minutes to be identified.
  2. Once installed, tap Done.
  3. If prompted, enter the PIN we emailed you.

7. Label Your eSIM

  1. Go to Data Plan Labels.
  2. Choose your new plan.
  3. Type the name you want (e.g., HopSim Travel eSIM).
  4. Tap Done.

8. Set Call & Message Preferences

  1. Under Default Line, select Primary

    → This keeps your usual NZ/AU number for calls & SMS.
  2. On iMessage & FaceTime, choose Primary as well.

9. Assign Mobile Data

  1. Go to Mobile Data / Cellular Data.
  2. Select your new HopSim eSIM.
  3. Turn OFF “Allow Mobile Data Switching” to avoid roaming charges.
  4. Tap Continue.

Important

Your iPhone may activate the plan immediately.

To avoid using data before your trip:

→ Turn OFF roaming on all plans until you arrive.

10. Activate at Your Destination

Activation only works in the destination country.

  1. Go to Settings → Mobile / Cellular.
  2. Choose your HopSim eSIM.
  3. Turn on This Line.
  4. Return to Mobile Data and confirm your eSIM is selected as the mobile data plan.
  5. Turn on Roaming for the eSIM.
  6. Wait 1–2 minutes for the network to connect.
Full Detailed Android Installation Instructions

Before You Begin

Have ready:

  • The QR code
  • The Activation Code and SM-DP+ Address (manual option)

    Note: Android menus vary by brand (Samsung, Pixel, etc.), but steps are similar.

1. Install Using QR Code

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Network & Internet (or Connections).
  3. Select SIMs / eSIM / Mobile Network.
  4. Tap Add eSIM or Use QR Code.
  5. Scan the QR code from your email.
  6. Wait for the plan to download.
  7. Confirm and continue.

2. Manual Installation (If QR Code Fails)

  1. Go to Settings → Network & Internet.
  2. Tap SIMs / eSIM.
  3. Tap Add eSIM.
  4. Choose Enter Details Manually.
  5. Enter the Activation Code and SM-DP+ Address exactly as provided.
  6. Confirm and finish setup.

3. Name Your eSIM (Optional)

  1. Open your new plan.
  2. Tap Edit / Rename SIM.
  3. Name it "HopSim eSIM" or anything you prefer.

4. Select the eSIM for Data

  1. Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs.
  2. Under Mobile Data, select your HopSim eSIM.
  3. Turn OFF Data Switching to avoid roaming on your primary SIM.

5. Activate at Your Destination

Activation only works after arrival.

  1. Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs.
  2. Select your HopSim eSIM.
  3. Enable Use SIM / Turn On This Line.
  4. Turn ON Roaming.
  5. Wait for the local network to connect.
